Our Story

The Room was established in 1986 in downtown Regina, and has been in 3 locations during its nearly 30 year lifespan. Cathedral Village has been home for more than half of that, over 16 years now!

 

It is a warm and welcoming family salon with Aveda at its core. Aveda’s mission is to ‘connect beauty, environment and well-being’.

Alison Borowko

Owner & Level 4 Stylist

Alison is the owner and operator of The Room Hair Design. The Room was founded in April of 1986 and Alison took over ownership in September of 2014. Alison was born and raised in Regina, Sk. and completed her cosmetology schooling in June of 2008 at Richard’s Beauty College. Alison went to high school in Regina at Balfour Collegiate and graduated in 2004. She also attended a program with Youth For a Mission (YWAM) in 2005 in Perth Australia, carrying out humanitarian work in Cairo, Egypt as well.

 

Throughout her career Alison has invested countless hours into additional education both for her creative side and business side. She is in the process of working towards a certificate in the business program at Sask Polythecnics. She has attended Leadership and Management training through Dale Carnegie, The Schwarzkopf ASK Academy, and Qnity for Aveda. Not to mention countless courses and classes in hair cutting and colouring through Schwarzkopf, Aveda and Redken. Alison believes strongly in fostering the growth of the industry and building strong, career focused hair stylists, through mentorship, education and drive. Alison also works part time at The Style Academy as a Guest Services Educator guiding and instructing up and coming new hair stylists.

 

Her love for hair started at a very early age, with dolls and barbies of course, but then moved onto experimenting with cutting and styling on pretty much any one that would let her! Her most favorite part of her job is transforming people with a new hair cut and colour. The ability to put a smile on someone’s face and grow their self confidence in just a hair appointment is what keeps her going everyday.

 

Chelsey Brack

Salon Manager & Level 3 Stylist

Chelsey is the Salon Manager at The Room and originally from Kitchener Ontario. She has been doing hair since 2007 after she graduated from Avant Garde Beauty College.

 

While she has many areas of expertise after her 9 years of experience her specialties are bob’s,  short hair cuts, ombre and balayage colour techniques and colour corrections.

 

Furthering her skills and education are important to Chelsey and some of her more notable experiences include 1st place in the 2007 ABA New Talent competition, Qnity for Aveda. She has attended many other hair cutting, colouring and styling courses through Aveda, Schwarzkopf and Redken.

 

 

 

Amelia Klotz-Flaman

Level 3 Stylist

Amelia has been creating and styling hair for over ten years! From an incredibly young age she has always been interested in hair, nails and beauty. At the age of 17, she started her journey in the industry at Richards Beauty College. While in school, she competed in the ABA's and was so committed to her studies she was able to graduate a month early. Amelia is also a certified nail technician, which she completed through Richards Beauty College.

 

Over her years as a stylist she has traveled around the province, as well as to Toronto and Las Vegas to further her education in advanced coloring and cutting classes, hair extensions and of course her favorite, bridal updos. She has had the pleasure of working on over 200 brides on their special day and countless bridesmaids! She has been involved in many fashion shows and photoshoots.

 

Amelia truly believes in this industry, "Great hair has the ability to do so many positive things. When you look good, you feel good". She could not be happier that her career has given her the opportunity to bring so much happiness to others!

Alena Thompson

Level 2 Stylist

Alena’s passion for hair has always lingered in the back of her mind. When she graduated high school in 2012 she decided to put her dream on the back burner and try taking classes at the University of Regina. However, it didn’t take long for her to realize that pursuing her dream of hairstyling was the right choice for her.

 

Alena graduated from Avant Garde Beauty College in April of 2014 and has been working hard pursuing her passion in hair ever since. She loves styling and discovering new and interesting up-styles, specifically with braids. She loves attending classes and furthering her knowledge in her spare time through learning as much as she can through online stylist forums and even Youtube.

 

Pursuing education in the industry is very important to Alena, as she has attended Aveda styling, women’s cutting and color technique classes, Schwarzkopf color class and Evo men’s cutting class. Alena is also very passionate about Aveda products and the things that they do around that world (such as bringing clean water to communities in need).

 

Moon Bright Saw

Level 1 Stylist

Moon was born and raised in Thailand, and moved to Canada in 2006 with her family. Moon graduated from The Style Academy in the summer of 2016.

 

She loves absolutely everything about doing hair. Her specialty is most definitely men's hair cutting. She loves trying out trendy men's fade hair styles and intricate hair tattoos. Her creative abilities allow her to create just about anything anyone is looking for.

Rylee Carter

Esthetician

Rylee has lived in Regina for most of her life but was born in Winnipeg Manitoba. She began working at The Room in the fall of 2014 using her background in administration, starting as a part time receptionist.

 

Rylee has always been interested in esthetics and began pursuing her interests in February of 2015. She has attended the manicure and waxing certificate courses at Richard’s Beauty College. She has continued her education by taking further training in pedicures, nail services and specialized waxing. Her most favorite parts of her career are waxing and nail art.

 

Brittany Sitter

Level 1 Stylist

Brittany grew up in Lumsden, Saskatchewan and graduated from Lumsden High School in 2010. Brittany has alwasy been a super creative person and alwasy thought about going to hair school, but decided to first test out some other career opportunities.

 

In 2012, Brittany attended school in Prince Albert for Correctional Studies finishing in 2014. Still not sure where she wanted to be she worked a few other odd jobs before finally deciding to give into her dream and attend hair school at The Style Academy in Regina in 2016.

 

 

Brittany's creative drive and ability to think outside the box, allows her to create amazing works of hair art. She loves colouring hair the most but would love to see you for all of your hair needs.

Lauren Henning

Level 3 Stylist

Lauren Henning has loved hair and beauty for a very long time, stemming from putting rollers in her brothers hair at a tender young age. Lauren is a Journeyman & Inter-Provincially licensed hairstylist in both Saskatchewan and British Columbia as well as a certified Bella Lash Eyelash Extension Technician. In May 2016, her passion for the industry inspired her to open "Driving with Scissors", an "everything hair" service that comes to you, wherever you are, which is ideal for those that don't want or can't do the salon environment.

"I believe that making your client look good on the outside, goes hand in hand with making them happy, comfortable and matching how they feel on the inside. A haircut can make anyone feel better, regardless of their situation."

Lauren also teaches part time as a floor educator at The Style Academy helping new talent find their way in an exciting industry!

 

 

 

Amber Wollbaum

Level 1 Stylist

Level 3 Nail Technician

Amber grew up and went to school in Vibank Saskatchewn. After graduating from high school in 2015 Amber attended the University of Regina in the Business Administration Program. She quickly realised that she wanted to be able to do something that she truly loved. She was always helping her friends style their own hair for special events or parties and while working at a daycare throughout high school she was braiding the kids hair on a regular basis. The cosmetology program at The Style Academy seemed like just the fit for her.

Amber graduated with honours at the top of her class from The Style Academy in June of 2017. During her time at The Style Academy she was also able to expand her industry horizons by becoming a certified Nail Technician as well as a certificate in Sunless Tanning.

Amber excels in styling and loves creating things with all styles and types of braiding, and also especially loves hair cutting. With Ambers expertise from hair to nails, to sunless tanning she offers so much to the team at The Room.
